FAMILY GUIDE

Fishing With Kids in La Push

First fishing trip for the children—or the whole family? You are warmly welcomed, with gear provided and patient help from the first step.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Start with the trip length your children can enjoy: 2-hour express for a shorter introduction, or 4-hour nearshore rockfish for more fishing time. Share ages and boat experience with Capt. Lamont. Children count toward the six-person group capacity.

Tell us about your children first

Share their ages, fishing experience, comfort on boats and anything that would help them feel welcome. Children of all ages are welcome, but the outing should fit the youngest or least comfortable person in the group. Discuss infant arrangements and life-jacket fit with the captain before booking.

2, 4 or 5 hours?

The 2-Hour Express Fishing trip is a shorter introduction. Nearshore Rockfish provides 4 hours or limits for a family ready for more fishing time. The 5-hour rockfish-and-lingcod option suits a crew comfortable with a longer ocean day. Choose the experience your group can enjoy rather than the biggest possible catch.

Pack for comfort, not just a photo

Bring warm layers, rain protection, secure footwear, water and familiar snacks. Keep belongings in a small bag and leave the fish cooler in the vehicle. A spare layer can be useful when a child gets damp or cold. Make a motion-sickness plan with a qualified clinician or pharmacist if needed.

Make room for little victories

You do not need to be an experienced fishing parent to give your children a good introduction. Capt. Lamont teaches the basics, demonstrates the gear and helps everyone learn together. Every question is welcome. Learning to hold a rod, noticing a bite and bringing a fish to the boat are victories worth celebrating. The Safari’s heated cabin and private bathroom make breaks easier.

Private trips and passenger counts

A private outing keeps your own crew together. Shared-seat trips may combine your party with other anglers. The boat accommodates up to six people in your group; children and non-fishing companions count toward capacity. Confirm the passenger list and supervision plan before departure.
