Private Fishing Charter or Shared Seats: Which Fits Your Group?

Compare privacy, group size and the way fares work before choosing your La Push fishing day.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Choose shared seats when you want to pay for individual places and are comfortable fishing with other guests. Choose a private charter when keeping the boat for your own family or friends is the priority. KYS carries up to six guests; compare the current total price for the exact trip and group size.

What shared seats mean

A shared charter combines individual bookings on the same departure. You may arrive as a couple, a solo angler or a small family and fish alongside other guests. You pay for your booked seats under that trip’s pricing. KYS shared bottomfish trips need three total booked anglers to operate, but your own party does not have to provide all three.

What a private charter changes

A private charter reserves the guest places for your own group. That can be appealing for a family outing, friends celebrating together or a crew that wants a shared experience without unfamiliar guests. It does not remove the captain’s responsibility to choose safe conditions or follow fishing rules. Private also does not mean unlimited time, unlimited catch or an automatically customizable route.

Compare the full group price

For shared seats, multiply the current per-person rate by the number of anglers. For a private option, check the included group size and the price of additional guests. Different trips use different pricing structures. Compare the same species and duration where possible, and ask the captain for a quote if your preferred private trip is not listed. Do not assume booking fewer than six places reserves the remaining ones.

Count everyone who will come aboard

The Safari accommodates up to six people in your group. Children and non-fishing companions count toward that capacity. If grandparents want to come along or a parent plans to help children rather than fish, discuss the whole passenger list before paying. A private booking does not create extra passenger space.

Match the format to your family

Shared seats can suit a smaller group that enjoys meeting other anglers. A private trip can make it easier to keep a family experience centered on your own crew. In either format, tell Capt. Lamont the ages, experience and expectations of everyone coming. Gear and patient instruction are provided, and the Safari has a heated cabin and private bathroom.

Confirm the details that matter to you

Before booking, agree on the trip type, group size, total fare, deposit, cancellation terms and any timing restrictions. Customized departures may be available by arrangement, subject to the captain’s schedule, tides and weather. If privacy is essential, say that explicitly. The right choice is the outing that fits your people and your budget—not simply the largest package.
